Kate Flynn, the founder and one-woman-show of Mineral +Mine, is a jewelry designer from Carbondale, Colorado.  Kate designs and hand-crafts each piece of jewelry from her studio tucked in the mountains. She has been making jewelry for almost 20 years, and specializes in both cold connections and metalsmithing.

-

Cold connections describes jewelry fabrication that is done without the use of a torch; this includes wirework, hammering, texturing, shaping, stringing, and silk knotting.

Metalsmithing describes jewelry fabrication that is done with the use of a soldering torch. Smithing requires chemicals, more special tools, and is usually more time consuming.

-

Both types of work are integral to Kate's designs, and take years of practice to perfect. Designs that are created using cold connections (this includes all wire-wrapped earrings, hammered bar necklaces, and strung bracelets) can be recreated more than once, with a nearly identical result. Kate's designs that are smithed are often completely one-of-a-kind, and are released monthly. To see an archive of past one-of-a-kind work, click here.

Kate's collection is continually evolving, with new designs and color combinations each season. She strives to create pieces that are modern, edgy, and unique. Originally from Connecticut, Kate moved to Colorado in 2009, where she resides with her husband, daughter, and two cats (Moxie & Rio). Her hobbies include hiking, skiing, painting, and travel.
